The story of a fat guy who thinks he can run a marathon.
1,000 Light Bulbs
The title of this blog comes from the amount of energy required to move a mass equivalent to me (330 pounds) over a distance of 26.2 miles. The energy required is roughly 17 kilowatt-hours, or 17,000 Watt-hours, or enough energy to light 1,000 15-Watt compact florescent light bulbs for more than an hour. This (very rough) energy conversion estimate does not include energy I may spend breathing, sweating, pumping blood, heating my body, or anything else, this is just the energy required to move 330 pounds 26.2 miles. (Scary, isn't it?)
